Match Up: #1 OHIO will host #11 University of Illinois for two games this weekend. Friday and Saturday night at Bird Arena. Friday night’s game will be aired live on ESPN3 at 7:00 pm. Saturday’s puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
Scouting #1 OHIO (13-2-1): OHIO made the long trip to Ames, IA last weekend and earned a split with the #9 ranked Iowa State Cyclone. OHIO defeated ISU Friday 4-2, and dropped a heartbreaker 5-4 on Saturday. OHIO fought all the way back to tie the game 4-4 in the third period after being down 4-0 midway through the game. OHIO is led by Gianni Evangelisti with 21 points in 16 games. Austin Heakins has 18 points in 16 games and Matthew Rudin has 17 points in 16 games. In net Jimmy Thomas has posted a 9-1-0 record and a .887 save percentage. Aaron Alkema has a 1.71 GAA and a .885 save percentage.
Scouting #17 University of Illinois (9-6-3): The Fighting Illini are one of the premier ACHA college hockey teams in the nation. Last weekend, Illinois travelled to CSCHL foe Lindenwood University and dropped two contests 3-2 in ot and 7-4. Upfront, Eric Cruickshank has 26 points in 16 games. James McGing has posted 24 points in 15 games. In net, Joe Olen has led the way for years for the Illini posting a .902 save percentage and a 3.40 GAA.
